AYF: The #1 Youth Football & Cheer League in the Nation
For nearly three decades, American Youth Football (AYF) has stood as the premier governing body for youth football and cheerleading, outshining its competition in every facet. With a reputation built on tradition, structure, and world-class venues, AYF continues to be the gold standard, offering athletes and their families an unparalleled experience. While independent leagues and invitational tournaments have emerged over the years, AYF remains unmatched in size, structure, and prestige.
A Decade of Change in Youth Football
The past decade has brought significant changes to the landscape of youth football in the United States. In 2017, the Youth National Championship (YNC) entered the scene, positioning itself as a disruptor. YNC broke away from the traditional structure, using a July 1 cutoff date rather than the standard July 31 or August 1 used by national leagues like AYF, Pop Warner, and UYFL. YNC also introduced team rankings and lucrative perks, such as custom uniforms for champions, to attract top talent.
However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, only the most robust organizations survived. While many independent teams formed their own schedules, AYF continued to grow, reinforcing its position as the #1 ranked youth football and cheer league in the nation.
As 2024 ushers in another independent invitational, teams now face a choice: compete in ranking-based invitationals or embrace the traditional path offered by AYF, where success is earned on the field through regional and national competition.
AYF: Tradition Meets Innovation
Founded on a commitment to player development and inclusivity, AYF has always been a trailblazer. Unlike leagues that restrict participation based on weight, AYF pioneered the age-based division system, ensuring more young athletes can compete and thrive.
In its 29th year, AYF boasts a membership of over 25,000 football and cheer teams, competing in a rigorous system where only the best earn their spot at nationals. From local Super Bowls to state and regional championships, every team must prove themselves to reach the coveted AYF National Championship.
2024 AYF National Championship: A New Era
This year, the AYF National Championship will adopt a bold new format. While Division 2 and 3 teams will follow the traditional route, Division 1 state champions will advance directly to nationals. The expanded brackets will now feature 12 to 16 teams, mimicking the excitement and unpredictability of the NCAA tournament. To heighten the drama, first-round matchups will be determined by a live drawing, making every game a must-watch event.
World-Class Venue: Paradise Coast Sports Complex
The 2024 championship will take place at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples, Florida—a venue that rivals college football stadiums. With nine turf fields and a stadium equipped with two massive Jumbotrons, the complex provides a professional-grade experience for players and fans alike.
Nearby, families can unwind at the Great Wolf Lodge, featuring an indoor water park, adventure park, and dining options, ensuring a memorable experience both on and off the field.
Star Power on the Field
AYF consistently attracts elite talent, with many participants boasting ties to professional football. This year’s competition will feature teams coached by former NFL and CFL players, including:
• Willie Parker, former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, coaching the 9U Oakgrove Pirates (NC).
• Greg Battle, former CFL linebacker, leading the 13U Galveston Sundevils (TX).
• Shawn Merriman, whose son will quarterback the 14U Jersey Shore squad.
• Ted Ginn Jr.,Former Miami Dolphins & San Francisco 49ers Wide Receiver, Ginn and his father are the founders of Ginn Elite Organzation located in Cleveland, Oh. servicing the youth and his community from ages 6U-14U.
AYF alumni include NFL stars like Bryce Young, the former I.E. Ducks quarterback and Alabama Heisman Trophy winner, and rising college standouts such as Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State) and C.J. Bailey (NC State).
8th Grade All-Star Game: A Grand Send-Off
AYF ensures its top 8th-grade athletes leave the league with a bang. The annual East vs. West All-Star Game, held during Pro Bowl week, offers players the chance to meet NFL stars and participate in Pro Bowl festivities. Sponsored by the NFL, this event has been a launchpad for future college recruits, with many alumni going on to play at top programs.
The Authority in Youth Football and Cheer
While other leagues focus on rankings and perks, AYF remains dedicated to its core values: competition, inclusivity, and tradition. Its National Cheer Championship is equally prestigious, known for its meticulous attention to detail and high-energy performances, offering cheerleaders a platform to shine on a national stage.
AYF’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the field. With seamless event management, family-friendly venues, and a diverse membership from states like Idaho, Hawaii, Texas, and New York, AYF provides a true national experience.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Youth Football
As the 2024 AYF National Championship approaches, anticipation is at an all-time high. With a revamped tournament structure, elite competition, and a world-class venue, this year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet.
For players, families, and fans, AYF is more than just a league—it’s a legacy. As youth football evolves, one thing remains certain: AYF is where champions are made.
