RNR Top 100 Class of 2029 Prospect Evaluation: Matt Mizell

School: Jacksonville Bolles School (FL)
Position: Running Back
Height/Weight: 6’0”, 160 lbs

Matt Mizell has quickly emerged as one of the most intriguing prospects in the Class of 2029, showcasing a blend of size, agility, and playmaking ability that sets him apart from his middle school peers. At 6’0”, 160 lbs, Mizell possesses a physical profile typically seen in high school athletes, raising the question of whether he might eventually outgrow the running back position. However, for now, Mizell’s skill set allows him to dominate at the youth level.

Mizell’s ability to cut on a dime, combined with a slasher style, makes him a nightmare for defenses. He demonstrates impressive burst and gear-shifting speed, consistently outrunning defenders in the open field. On top of his quickness, he brings an edge to his game, using a powerful stiff arm to shed would-be tacklers. This rare combination of finesse and physicality has resulted in a highlight reel filled with standout touchdown runs.

One of Mizell’s key assets is his versatility. Not only can he be an every-down back, but he also excels in the passing game. His ability to catch out of the backfield and line up wide gives him the potential to be a dynamic offensive weapon at any level. This multifaceted skill set will be especially valuable as he transitions to higher levels of competition.

While middle school competition in Florida doesn’t always match the highest levels seen nationally, Mizell leaves no doubt that he’s head and shoulders above his peers. His competitiveness and will to dominate opponents suggest that he’ll be able to adapt smoothly to tougher competition, especially as part of a prestigious program like Bolles. With the school’s strong football tradition, Mizell could see action on JV or even Varsity if he continues to develop at this rapid pace.

Mizell is throwing his hat into the ring as one of the top five running backs in the country for the Class of 2029. His size, ability, and playmaking potential will be closely watched, and after his 8th-grade campaign, it’s likely we’ll revisit his status as one of the premier prospects in the nation.
