HT: 5’4

WT: 135

*Player Evaluation: Jalen “Sumo” Robertson, Class of 2031, QB – AZ Valley Boys**

Jalen “Sumo” Robertson is a name generating a lot of buzz in the Class of 2031. As a quarterback, Robertson has already earned a reputation as one of the top prospects in his age group, with notable performances for multiple organizations, including his current team, the AZ Valley Boys. His physical attributes align perfectly with the quarterback position, providing a solid foundation for continued development.

**Strengths:**

– **Arm Strength and Release:** Robertson displays a quick release combined with an impressive arm, allowing him to make throws all over the field. Whether delivering short, quick passes or hitting deep routes, his velocity and timing give him an edge over many of his peers.

– **Football IQ:** Jalen has demonstrated a deep understanding of the game. His decision-making skills shine through as he consistently makes the right reads, rarely forcing passes or putting his team in dangerous situations.

– **System Fit and Efficiency:** Operating in a wide-open offensive system, Robertson’s ability to execute at a high level is clear. The Valley Boys’ explosive offensive output can be directly tied to his precision and leadership under center, making their games must-watch events.

– **Composure:** Despite his young age, Jalen already exhibits a level of poise and confidence in the pocket. He doesn’t seem rattled under pressure, which is a valuable trait as he progresses through the ranks.

**Areas for Improvement:**

– **Refining Mechanics:** As with many young quarterbacks, there is still room for Robertson to polish his mechanics, particularly in footwork and consistency with his throwing motion, which can help improve his accuracy and timing.

– **Mobility:** While his arm talent is undeniable, working on his mobility and ability to extend plays outside the pocket would make him an even more dynamic threat, particularly as defenses at higher levels become faster and more complex.

**Outlook:**

If Jalen Robertson continues to focus on improving his mechanics and refining his game, he has the potential to be a top-tier quarterback in the Class of 2031. His natural talent, combined with his leadership on the field, makes him a prospect to watch closely. Expect him to continue making noise as he rises through the ranks, potentially becoming one of the premier signal callers in his class.

As I continue with this new series following quarterbacks throughout their journeys, it’s important to highlight the good and emphasize the importance of improvement. I take nothing away from any student-athlete at all.

Stats:

7/13, 237 yards, three touchdowns

One carry, 17 yards

The team’s focus on online play has improved over the past week. However, allowing interior pressure may pose challenges in winning competitive games. A win was important to build momentum for the upcoming matchup against the #1 seed Dacula next weekend. It is important for the Knights’ staff to maintain momentum throughout the game, and as the team continues to develop, this is likely to improve.

The Knights were able to capitalize on the defensive vulnerabilities of the Brookwood Broncos’ back end, gaining a significant 170 yards on the ground. The Brookwood front 7 presented a formidable challenge. coupled with 237 passing yards. The knights Showed up ready to play today. Penalties hurt the Knights as they had 75 yards in total penalties.

In a holistic QB analysis, there were notable improvements in certain areas, but there are opportunities for further development. One significant issue is the tendency for the quarterback to display inactive footwork in the pocket following the initial dropback. It’s crucial for quarterbacks to maintain agility in their footwork without becoming unduly frenetic. Furthermore, there is a noticeable habit of holding onto the ball for extended periods, especially when there are open receivers. Timely ball release, particularly under pressure, is critical for the effectiveness of offensive plays. Lastly, there is potential for enhanced consistency in the follow-through to prevent underthrown passes. These areas aside, no other major concerns were identified.

FINAL SCORE

32-0

Synopsis:

In a recent game between #7 Lawrenceville and #9 Buford, the Black Knights’ quarterback had a challenging day, completing only 11 of 16 passes. The Black Knight line struggled, allowing 7 sacks on the quarterback. This made it difficult for Brandon to find his rhythm in the pocket. The run game also faced difficulties, managing only 62 yards in total. It’s clear that the Black Knights will need to address their offensive issues in order to be successful in important games this season.

Brandon, who previously played in the Cedar Grove System has now moved to a predominantly wing T and heavy I Formation scheme under coach Rowe, who is known for winning. This change in offensive strategy raises the question of whether adjustments will be made to better support Brandon and the rest of the team, or if the system will take precedence over individual skill sets.

Despite the challenges, Brandon has managed to have 2 games with over 120 yards passing, showing promise for the team’s growth and improvement. The Black Knights will need to work on correcting their mistakes and aim to secure more victories in the coming games.

SWQA individual QB analysis:

Brandon had a tough time getting his feet set during the game, and it was clear that the pressure was weighing on him. I noticed he was so focused on the rush that he missed some of the open opportunities his receivers were creating. The pressure affected his follow-through as well, causing the ball to sail at times. During his rollouts, Brandon could benefit from losing a bit of ground to create more space to make a clean throw. When Brandon decides to leave the pocket, I want him to feel confident because he has the mobility and skill to make it happen. These moments of adversity are what mold great quarterbacks. At this level of play, I expect these kinds of mistakes, but I know Brandon and his team are eager to learn and improve. Their hunger for knowledge is what will propel them forward.

The result:

The final score of the game was 22-6.

The season has officially kicked off for the nation and we are in for a treat. We get to witness some of the best student-athletes, play and mature right before our eyes. I’ll be highlighting different signal callers throughout the season. The goal is to showcase their growth and progression throughout each level of play.

Week 1

Davis II is putting his skills on display for everyone to see. He works tirelessly in the off-season to achieve great things. A former Elephant, now turned Knight, his performance doesn’t waver.

Game breakdown:

160 yards passing, and one touchdown

10 Rushing yards

Final score 22-12 against former team Gainseville.

I had to honor of interviewing Brandon after the game. Here’s what he had to say:

Me:

This was your first game in the GFL, 8th grade. How are you feeling?

Brandon:

“The league was a new experience, but I’ve been a champion in Gwinnett, 2 years ago. Being back in Gwinnett felt like home”

Me:

That’s outstanding. Keep up the good work young man, I’ll be rooting for you.

Lawrenceville offers an amazing atmosphere where everything, from the food, to the cheerleaders, and the football, is pure excitement. As a standout athlete on the Georgia scene, Brandon has everyone ready to see what happens as the Black Knights gear up to face Buford this week. After a tough game with nine dropped passes last weekend, the stage is set, and Brandon and his team are ready to see how they’ll bounce back in this crucial matchup!
